Waverton's U13 Wasps have reached the final of the FA's Cheshire Cup after a close fought 2-1 victory against Stockport Junior Blues. To have reached the last 2 in a cup competition that started with 68 teams is a tremendous achievement for manager Mark Wilkinson's team and the club wish them every success in the forthcoming final against Vauxhall Motors! The final is currently scheduled for 21st March, venue to be confirmed. |

AFC Waverton will be running another of its popular summer football weeks from Monday 24th - Thursday 27th August. Activities start at 10am and finish at 3pm each day. The course costs £45 for the full course or £12.50 per day. A free Puma skill ball will be given to all children who attend the full course. It is open to anyone between the ages of 6 and 15 (boys and girls) and provides a perfect way to get ready for the new season and have a lot of fun in the process! Key features:- • U.E.F.A. AFC Waverton 3 - Irby Colts 0 A great end to the Wallasey League season ended in our girls taking the Presidents Cup back down the M53 to Waverton after a great display against Irby Colts. We won the Cup! Heather's special message for the girls, sent all the way from Spain, was read out to the girls just before kick off. A nervous start meant that for the first 15 minutes the girls didn't settle easily with little evidence of the great passing football that the girls have played for much of the season. Once the deadlock had been broken though through a Kiera corner which went straight in, the girls relaxed and were always in control.  Ellie shows her ball control skills and a knowledge of the handball rule 1-0 at half time the girls were told not to panic and keep playing their passing game. This is what happened and Ellie added the second goal running through and slotting the ball home into the far corner and then Meg chose a great time to score her first goal of the season tapping home a low cross from close range.  Meg chooses a great time to score her first goal of the season Kiera stepped up to collect the President's Cup from Robbie McGlynn of the Wallasey League and the celebrations began. Thanks to Robbie, Hughie, Karen and all at the Wallasey League for their hard work in organising the evening and to all the supporters who travelled from Waverton. Well done girls.  AFC Waverton Jets 2 Castrol Athletic 1 Castrol came back strongly after half time and leveled the match with a goal on the rebound following a fast break and shot from their left winger. The Jets held their nerve and reclaimed the league 5 minutes later with a well worked move which saw Jack Bailey score clinically on the break. The team continued to press strongly and could have made it a two goal league seconds from the end when the keeper saved bravely from a James Thompson shot. The match ended 2-1 and sealed a league and shield double for the Waverton team |

Congratulations to James Harker. The AFC Waverton Hornets under 10's player has been signed up to Chester City's School of Excellence becoming the third player from the Club this season to join Chester. James has been at AFC Waverton since the age of 6 and whilst he has been a valuable member of his squad and will be missed by players and coaches alike, all at AFC Waverton wish him the best for the future and trust that this is a fruitful and profitable experience. Well done James! |

Scott Evans and Mathew Harland Jones of U 11's Waverton Wasps played their last game on Sunday 14th December. Both boys have been asked to Sign for Chester City. Both boys have been with Waverton since u6's and will be missed. Waverton are proud and wish both boys every success in the future! |
Itinerary for AFC Waverton visit to Chester City13th December 2008 Players are to arrive at Wood Farm Training Facility in time for training sessions that begin at 11.45am prompt. AFC Waverton Managers/Coaches are required to stay for the training sessions but parents may go home/Christmas shopping if they wish although they are welcome to stay and watch. There will be a catering van selling food, tea, coffee etc. at the training ground for anyone who wants to stay and watch.
Players will need boots and shin pads (they will be training on grass) – and please ensure they bring tracksuits, hats, gloves, trainers and other appropriate warm clothing to wear after training. They will also need to bring a packed lunch or money to buy lunch from the catering van (they will get a drink and fruit bag after training).
The training ground is at Deeside Lane off Sealand Road. Best way to get there is to go down Sealand Road, past the large B&Q Warehouse. From the lights at B&Q, carry on down Sealand Road (signposted Queensferry) for approx 2.4 miles until you come to the Golf driving range on the left. Turn left here (sign for WT Banks – Wood Farm) on to Deeside Lane. Follow Deeside Lane round for about 1.3 miles until you come to the large white building which is Land of Fires Showroom (mind the large ramps in road here). Just after here turn left and Wood Farm Training Facility is about 1/10th of a mile on the left.
Parents who have been requested by their managers to help with transport must be back at Wood Farm by 1.15pm at the latest to help transport the children to the Deva Stadium at approximately 1.35pm.
On arrival at the Deva Stadium, the children will have their packed lunches and they will then be taken on a guided tour of the ground in smaller groups. Because of the large number we are taking it won’t be possible to get us all in the changing rooms to meet the players – so instead when we are all in our seats (we will have an enclosed area of the stand all to ourselves) the players will come over to us before the game and sign autographs etc. – so make sure players or parents bring pens with them.
Parents and children just coming to the match are to collect their tickets from Graham Frost who will be at the Main Ticket Office between 2.15 and 2.30pm.
The children will then meet up with the adults in the main stand to watch the game. Parents not coming to the game can collect their children at 4.45pm from outside the main ticket office.
If possible, players should wear their AFC Waverton kits, Training jackets etc. Managers/Coaches are responsible for their own teams players and must arrange transport to/from Wood Farm and the Deva Stadium.

 Recently Waverton Goal-keepers participated in two training session run by Lee Burke on the art of Goal-keeping. Players from our U7's through to U12's teams were put through there paces practicing the following: General handling, Shot Stopping, Positioning and angles in the Goal, and distributionof the ball. The response from the players was fantastic and they worked really hard trying to better their skills in the goal!  |
AFC Waverton will run a 2 week Goalkeeping course at Waverton starting 1st November
and finishing 8th November for all keepers up to and including U12s
The Course will start at 1145 am on Saturday 1st November for approx 1 hour.
The course will go over all aspects of Goal Keeping and the guys should get a great deal of benefit from the 2 weeks. AFC Waverton are funding the course so we need Confirmed Numbers ASAP. Please can you confirm your Keepers attendance once you have checked there availability.

We need a minimum of 4/5 keepers to make it happen so please give it your support. Goalkeepers are a very important part of the team and sometimes need a little concentrated specialist direction and coaching.
So stop getting frustrated with conceding soft goals; lets get the keepers signed up for these two weeks.
